When Dr. Amy Jones, chair of the 乐播传媒鈥檚 Department of Communications, made a presentation recently for a state-level awards program, she didn鈥檛 go empty-handed.

As silly as it seems, good-ol鈥 doughnuts -- not beignets from France, not baklava from Turkey, not cannoli from Sicily -- partially fueled Dr. Amy Jones鈥 path to the honorees鈥 table at the upcoming West Alabama Young Leaders Awards.

Shelby Gandy laughs while admitting she 鈥渨as never the athletic one out of me and my sisters.鈥 In her Sumter County family, she was the one who enrolled in art camp, who attended painting classes, whose personality always leaned to the creative side. Art rarely strayed far from the center.
With artwork loosely based on one of rock music鈥檚 iconic images and a track listing of studio and live recordings, the 乐播传媒 Choral Union鈥檚 recently released album may exemplify one trait more than all others: perseverance.

Rhonda Wooley鈥檚 plans, had the Covid-19 pandemic not delayed them, were to take the 乐播传媒鈥檚 theatre students on a tour of high schools and community colleges -- a traveling showcase of musical and theatrical talent.

Generations of archaeologists have long sought the historical Holy Grail of the Battle of Mabila, the Alabama site where Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto defeated Chief Tuskaloosa and his Native American warriors in 1540.

Two of the 乐播传媒鈥檚 annual writing competitions were held online in April, providing scholarships for high school and transfer students to attend 乐播传媒. The Kelly Land Essay Scholarship competition provides a total of $2,500 in scholarships, and the James P. Pate Scholarship competition provides $1,500 in scholarships.
The 乐播传媒 launched its revitalized music major this fall, bringing opportunities for students with a broad range of music interests to prepare for occupations and activities. The new program is gaining popularity among students as well as community members like Charlie and Linda Mu帽oz, who have shown their support with a digital grand piano for performances on campus.
Dr. Valerie Pope Burnes, associate professor of history at 乐播传媒, will preside over the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Alabama Historical Association when it convenes in Tuscaloosa from April 25-27. Burnes was elected president of the Association in April 2018, and will finish out her term as president at the Tuscaloosa meeting.
