The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Board of Trustees approved at its June 1 quarterly meeting proposed construction plans for facilities at Lake LU for its new fishing team, which will begin competing this year.

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ professor and athletic trainer Dr. R.T. Floyd has just published a new edition of a textbook that has come to serve as a cornerstone of athletic training, physical education and health science curricula across the nation.

2020 University Retirement Honorees
Each spring, the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ recognizes its retiring faculty and staff in a formal ceremony with family, friends, and colleagues. Like many events of 2020, the ceremony could not be held this spring due to health and safety restrictions related to gathering on campus.
In its ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is offering more relief to students by returning a portion of student fees from the fall semester. Students will be reimbursed up to $300 for previously paid student activity and student athletic fees.
The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has been awarded $6.5 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education for a teacher residency project, Project REACh, that will be led by the Tutwiler College of Education. Project REACh, Residencies for Educating Alabama’s Children, will be a $13-million-dollar project for prospective Alabama’s educators. The funding will be disbursed over a five-year period.
The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ will delay some of its Homecoming events originally scheduled for October 26-31 in order to adhere to government and health care guidance to preserve health and safety on campus. While some Homecoming events are postponed until spring 2021, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ will still have a spirit week in October with a schedule of its most popular fall traditions that allow for social distancing and smaller gatherings.
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Financial Aid Guidance

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has recently been recognized most favorably of the Alabama schools included in a ranking that compares college student loan debt. 

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ President Ken Tucker has been appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to the Alabama STEM Council, which will advise state leadership on ways to improve STEM-related education, career awareness and workforce development opportunities across the state.
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has earned accreditation by the Alabama Department of Public Health. Garnering top marks, this accreditation helps ensure that licensure courses offered on campus meet the highest standards and provide exceptional training.
Donald Smith

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has announced the appointment of Donald Smith as coach of its cheerleading team. Smith assumed the graduate assistant position in August, having spent the last five years in coaching and game day strategy roles.
